Curriculum

We aim to provide a safe, stimulating environment in which children, through purposeful play, are encouraged to develop at their own rate. We aim to encourage children to be confident, to leave carers and socialise and communicate with both their peers and adults.

In planning the activities for the children, we aim to provide a broad, balanced and flexible curriculum linked to "A Curriculum Framework for Children 3 to 5", which covers the six key aspects of children's learning:

Emotional, Personal and Social Development
Communication and Language
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Expressive and Aesthetic Development
Physical Development and Movement
Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Emotional, Social and Personal Development
In Emotional, Social and Personal Development, children will start to develop self confidence and independence and form positive relationships with other children and adults. They should learn to play cooperatively and share resources and begin to develop positive attitudes towards others.

Communication and Language
In Communication and Language, children are encouraged to develop listening and talking skills through stories, songs and music, rhymes and opportunities for role-play. We provide a range of books suitable for the age range of the children and encourage them to use books individually and in groups. Some children may begin to recognise some familiar words and letters.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
In Knowledge and Understanding of the World, children will be given opportunities to develop their powers of observation, ask questions and begin to appreciate the natural world. Through play they will have opportunities to sort, match, count and group, recognise colours and shape and will be encouraged to develop problem solving skills.

Expressive and Aesthetic Development
In Expressive and Aesthetic Development, we encourage children to express themselves through a range of activities both individually and in groups. They will have access to paint, modelling materials, musical instruments, role-play and opportunities to participate in simple dances and singing games.

Physical Development and Movement
In Physical Development and Movement, we encourage children to enjoy energetic activities, to develop body awareness and cooperate with others through physical play.
Through a range of activities, the fine movements of their fingers and hands will be developed.

Information Communication Technology (ICT)
We aim to develop the use of ICT and provide regular hands-on opportunities for children to experience ICT resources within a range of curricular areas.
